This is the first month end since this little blog has been launched. From now onward I will give an update on where we are on the road to one million. I will let you know what investments were added to the portfolio, share the dividend income on a quarterly basis, and hopefully can demonstrate how every little step you make takes you closer to financial independence. Let’s see where we are now!

There have been two purchases in September (besides of the stunning extra 1 ABN Amro share received within the scope of the dividend reinvestment plan 🙂 ):
- Target – I have more than doubled my stake in the company. I find the stock quite attractive at current levels, the dividend looks safe, currently yielding 3.37%, furthermore they have announced an extra 5 billion USD addition to their stock buyback program (over 12% of the current market value). At the moment the stock is around purchase value in the portfolio, but on the long term I am expecting higher prices on the top of the dividends received.
- Sanofi – I see the stock really undervalued right now. It is yielding 4.33% at the moment, the dividend is safe, furthermore the company has a good record in continuous dividend increases over the last years. In addition Sanofi is one of the two European companies who has managed to issue corporate bonds with negative yield (i.e. investors pay them to lend them money)! With this new purchase, after being the smallest one, Sanofi has become the 8th biggest holding of the Dirty Thirty Portfolio.
It is always nice to read news about dividend increases. In a way it’s like getting a salary increase. The icing on the cake is when you get news about double digit increases. In September two companies have put a smile on my face, as Lockheed Martin and Yum! Brands have announced a 10.3% and 10.8% dividend increase. In addition Lockheed Martin has also increased its stock repurchase program by USD 2 billion. Both companies represent a smaller part of the portfolio, but it probably won’t stay like this for a long time as I’m planning to buy some extra LMT shares in October.
Nothing changed here this month. My only bond holding is still the PowerShares Emerging Markets Sovereign Debt Portfolio ETF. I am planning to increase my holding in it in the future, but only as the value of the stocks grows.
Real Estate: EUR 13,000 (I will only update the value once per year)
Cash: EUR 10,000
Total: EUR 55,946 (vs EUR 53,134 in August)
Pie chart of the portfolio assets
Quarterly dividend update
Q3 has been closed with EUR 246.34 dividend income (after tax deductions). In addition around EUR 60 has been received from the monthly garage rental fee (also after tax).
Finally let’s see where we are on the road to one million! Still far of course, so I will set the Y axis to the first important milestone, EUR 100,000. Even though the blog has been launched in September 2016, I will always show the progress from January 2016, the date when this dream of financial independence and early retirement has started to be realized.
