Hooray, The Road to One Million has become one year old! Time flies and I’m really happy that this site has achieved the one year milestone. According to the statistics, most bloggers stop writing after only three months, so the fact that this blog is still around fills me with a sort of pride.
On 1st September 2016 the first content, Introduction has been published on The Road to One Million. Since then, many things have happened both around the side and also financially.
The Growth of the Site
During the last year, 88 articles have been posted on the site. Besides of the introduction, the most popular piece seems to be the one about the Dutch 30% ruling. The least popular is about the importance of saving from as early as possible. I wonder why; I’m pretty sure there are some worse articles on the site 🙂
It’s not only the number of articles are growing, but also the number of pageviews. To be honest it’s a very slow pace, but what I am happy to see is that over 45% of the visitors are returning ones. I would like to say a big thank you for those hundreds of faithful readers!
According to Google Analytics, most of the visitors are coming from the FIRE heaven USA and of course the Netherlands. But I had visitors from more exotic places like the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and even somebody from Belarus spent 4 full seconds on the site, visiting 2 pages during his session 🙂
From an income perspective the site is not too profitable yet. The best article I could put together at the moment would have the title something like “How I Earned Almost 30% of the Google AdSense Payout Threshold With Blogging?” Nevertheless this was never the main driving factor of starting this site.
Starting the blog was extremely easy. If you’re interested in a how to start a blog step by step guide, you can find a good summary on the site.
Growth of Investments
It’s not only the site that has grown, but we are also getting closer step by step to reach our EUR 1 million goal. When the blog was launched, the value of our portfolio was EUR 53,131. The financial overview of August is not published yet, but I can already tell that (spoiler alert! 🙂 ) now we stand at EUR 101,847. This is a nearly EUR 50k increase in a year.
As we are still in the wealth accumulation phase, the majority of this increase is due to savings. At the same time there is a few thousand coming from the increase of the value of our investments, furthermore our dividend snowball is also getting bigger bit by bit. The below chart shows the quarterly increases of our net dividends:
From September 2016 until the end of July (August numbers are still to be summarized) we have received over EUR 1.3k dividends.
During the first year of the blog we have also managed to make a deal on the purchase of our first rental property which I am also documenting from the very beginning. Hope these articles will be useful for other investors in similar situation, and also for ourselves when we try to figure out in the future what did we do right and what did we screw up.
Last but not least, I want to say thank you once again for following us. I hope you will stay being a reader in the future too. In relation to this I am really interested in your feedback on what could I improve to make it as a more interesting site for you? What kind of topics should I write more about? Are there anything that you don’t like on the site? Be honest! Do you like the design of the site? Or you find it ugly? I would appreciate all kinds of feedback.
